Our Philosophy

Functionality is the baseline.

Design

is what turns a shelter into a

refuge.

Humans are all designers at our core. Instinctively, we tend to dislike small rooms with no windows, and we avoid sleeping in places like hospitals and airports where our nervous systems stay on high alert.

Architects spend years studying environments affect people, and we put that knowledge to work on every project.

Carbon Studio brings years of residential and commercial experience to each design. Instead of chasing trends, we rely on principles that last:

+proportion +

+spatial awareness +

+material integrity +

+lighting +

+context +

The result is work that functions well, is designed to last, and feels '‘just right’ years from now.

Alex Duncan

Architect | AIA, NCARB

Alex Duncan is a licensed architect and the founder of Carbon Studio, with a decade of experience in the industry. Alex has completed projects in residential, office, retail, hospitality, medical office, and restaurant design, with 70+ permits obtained across six states. A design-build project completed with Colorado Building Workshop, where she further strengthened her love of design-build, earned the 2017 Utah AIA Honor Award and the 2018 ACSA Design/Build Award, and was featured in major architectural publications including Dezeen and ArchDaily. Raised in a small business family, Alex founded Carbon Studio to give clients direct, owner-level attention and design solutions that are tailored to each client.

When she’s not in the office, Alex enjoys anything in the Great Outdoors, running, live music, and spending time on the water. Meyer’s Briggs Type: ENFP.

Theodore Duncan

Enthusiastic on site visits. Unreliable with a tape measure.

After a short 5 months, he has also been selected as Head of Emotional Support and lead of the Welcome Committee.

When Theo’s not tending to his fans, he enjoys chasing squirrels, long belly-up naps, squeaky toys - and their stuffing, and what his owners call, “spicy kisses.”
